Dambulla-Cave-Temple-1920x700-1_edited.jpg

According to Legend,

This is the place on 1st century BC when King took refuge here after he escape from invasion of Anuradhapura by south indian Tribes.

These caves became the place of worship  Legend states that the King thanked his place of refuge and constructed a formal temple upon his return to Anuradhapura. The deep overhanging of the cliff above helped to preserve the splendidness.

The cave temple was never abandoned and is often described as the best edifice of ancient Sri Lanka.

Sacred Buddha Royal Tooth Relic

It said it is a pilgrimage site for Buddhists from around the world to see this Tooth of Buddha. Sybolicly has alot of meaning.

When i visit there, They were keeping in a box and in the special room and it has a different kind of shine. A peace a stilness.

According to legend, when the Buddha died, his body was cremated in Kusinara in India, and his left canine tooth was retrieved from the ashes of the sandalwood funeral pyre and given to King Brahmadatta. The last Indian king to possess the tooth, King Guhasiva of Kalinga, had it smuggled to Sri Lanka in the 4th century during the reign of the Sri Lankan king Kirti Sri Megavanna, who built a shrine for it in Anuradhapura. A tradition emerged that whoever possessed the relic had the divine right to rule the land. The relic went on to have various homes around the island, always near the home of a ruler, before it finally arrived in Kandy late in the 16th century.
